چکیده

A new species of the red algal genus Gelidium, G. omanense M.J. Wynne, is described from the Sultanate of Oman, northern Arabian Sea. This species is a very commonly occurring eulittoral seaweed on the Omani coast, essentially one of the dominant species during the summertime southwest monsoon on exposed rocky shores. Its distribution is from Dhofar (southern Oman) in the west to Masirah Island, Sharqia, in the east. It has been mis-identified as Suhria vittata (L.) J. Agardh wnow Gelidium vittatum (L.) Kutz.; cf. Tronchin et al. (2002)x. Recent ̈ studies of morphology and rbcL gene sequences, however, have demonstrated that this alga differs from other known species in Gelidium and should be recognized as a new species.

Chrysymenia tigillis sp. nov. (Rhodymeniales, Rhodophyta) from the Sultanate of Oman, with a census of currently recognized species in the genus Chrysymenia

Chrysymenia tigillis sp. nov. is described on the basis of a few specimens collected from Dhofar, Sultanate of Oman. The new species is known only from southern Oman, a region of the northern Arabian Sea that is strongly impacted by the upwelling from the summertime monsoon. It is distinguished from other species of the genus by the simple nature of the blades, their dimensions (to 75 cm in len...

Terrestrial and lacustrine gastropods from the Priabonian (upper Eocene) of the Sultanate of Oman

Terrestrial and aquatic gastropods from the upper Eocene (Priabonian) Zalumah Formation in the Salalah region of the Sultanate of Oman are described. The assemblages reflect the composition of the continental mollusc fauna of the Palaeogene of Arabia, which, at that time, formed parts of the southeastern Tethys coast. Several similarities with European faunas are observed at the family level, b...

Turbinaria foliosa sp. nov. (Fucales, Phaeophyceae) from the Sultanate of Oman, with a census of currently recognized species in the genus Turbinaria

Turbinaria foliosa sp. nov. is described on the basis of several collections made from Dhofar, Sultanate of Oman. The new species is known only from southern Oman, a region of the northern Arabian Sea that is strongly impacted by the upwelling from the summertime monsoon. It is distinguished from other species of the genus by the shape of the leaves and by their loose, non-congested arrangement...

Mitogenomes from type specimens, a genotyping tool for morphologically simple species: ten genomes of agar-producing red algae

DNA sequences from type specimens provide independent, objective characters that enhance the value of type specimens and permit the correct application of species names to phylogenetic clades and specimens. We provide mitochondrial genomes (mitogenomes) from archival type specimens of ten species in agar-producing red algal genera Gelidium and Pterocladiella. The genomes contain 43-44 genes, ra...

A new genus and species of Amphipoda is reported from inland ground waters of the Sultanate of Oman. Although Glyptogidiella omanica gen. et sp. nov. exhibits several features typical of the Bogidiellidae (i. e. combined display of distinct carpal lobe on first gnathopod, reduced pleopodal rami, and unsegmented exopodite of third uropod), its exceptionally large fifth coxal plate and short rami...
